Spencer's blues roots

run deep

Vocalist and harmonica player Spencer Jarrett plays a hard-driving blend of blues, originals, and old school R&B.

An accomplished musician at age 12, Spencer honed his musical craft in Chicago, New York and Columbus, playing harmonica with a veritable “Who’s Who” of the blues world – including Otis Rush, Big Mama Thornton, Mighty Joe Young, Wilbert Harrison and Papa John Creach.

He also spent 20+ years playing guitar and harmonica with three traditional black gospel quartets, the Gospel QCs, the Gospel Travelers, and the Spiritual Messengers, sharing billing with renowned groups including the Mighty Clouds of Joy and the Canton Spirituals. Spencer and The Gospel Travelers were the subject of a PBS documentary. He was also the friend and traveling companion of Rev. Claude Jeter of the Swan Silvertones.

Spencer performs regularly at festivals and clubs, energizing audiences with the passion he has for sharing his music.
